Olamilekan Yusuf,a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged to an Apapa Magistrates' Court for allegedly procuring abortion drugs for his 14-year-old girl friend.

The suspect is facing a one-count charge of procurement of abortion drugs. The suspect resides at Turner Eradiri Str., Ajegunle, Lagos.

Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye,the Prosecutor told court that he committed the offence on Oct. 27 at his residence.

It was reported that the accused slept with the 14-year-old girl several times which led to an unwanted pregnnancy.

Kokoye added that the two were neighbours.

He said“When the accused discovered that his girl friend was pregnant, he convinced her to take abortion drugs, since they were not both ready to cater for a child at young age.

“The young girl started having severe stomach pains after taking the abortion drugs and she was also bleeding.

“The parents of the 14-year-old girl discovered that their daughter was acting strange and was also in so much pain, they decided to take her to the hospital for medical attention.

“It was at the hospital that they were told that their daughter was pregnant and also took abortion drugs to terminate the pregnancy.

“ The girl later confessed to her parents that Yusuf, who was responsible for the pregnancy, gave her some drugs to use to terminate the pregnancy.

“ The case was reported to the police and the accused was immediately arrested,''.

He said that the offence contravened provisions of Section 145 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Mr M.A Etti, the Magistrate granted the accused a bail in sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 12, 2017 for further hearing after the suuspect pleaded not guilty to the charge.
