The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said it would soon digitize the whole process of registration and transfer of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC), following the apathy shows by the Nigerian electorate, which leads to the collection of their PVCs.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman makes this statement at the weekend, during a media interface in Nigerian FCT, Abuja.

The INEC Chairman lamented that the low rate of PVC collection, all over the country points the fact that the PVC cards were mainly needs driven.

Mr. Yakubu make it known that the outcome he received monthly from the commission's state offices was not encouraging, proving that in some area, only 30 pieces of PVCs were collected while about 400,000 PVCs were uncollected.

Mr. Yakubu said: “It (PVC collection) is a big issue. I have been receiving monthly returns from the state offices, but sometimes there would be 400,000 PVCs uncollected in a state and the monthly return would show only 30 as having been collected.

''People don't want to collect. It has to be tied to something, maybe, election is around the corner and they wish to vote, there is an incentive for them to do so. The director of ICT was telling me that the issue of cards is always tied to something.”
