The Chief Executive Officer of Raymos Guana Farms, Mr. Raymos Guana said the Federal Government decision to ban rice importation through land border in Nigeria is too fast.

The ex-commissioner for lands in Delta state declared this on Thursday at Asaba in an interview with NAN (News Agency of Nigeria).

Guana explained that the Government should have given farmers three to five years notice before putting bans on rice importation.

He said that the total amount of rice produced in Nigeria recently did not meet the levels of rice demanded by peoples.

Mr. Guana also said that the plans of the federal government towards boosting rice production in Nigeria, which would feed the entire nation, can be successful if farmers are given more years to plan.

Mr. Guana stated that; “With such target, each state of the federation would be given specified quantity of rice to be produced within the stipulated time.

“For example, Delta will produce one million tonnes of rice, Anambra two million, while Ebonyi will produce five million tonnes of rice.

“With this target, I am very sure that each state would work toward achieving its goals and expectation,''

The Chief Executive officer advices the federal government to support farmers in area of processing facilities, saying that food lost after harvests were so much.

“If we have processing machines around the country, there will be much food left after harvest.” he said
