Days after he was remanded in prison, Ex-departv Yero frees 31 inmates
– Ex-governor Ramalan Yero has paid the fines to free 31 inmates from jail
– The former governor met the 31 lucky inmates when he was remanded in jail for alleged fraud
– The governor is standing trial for alleged fraud and laundering of N700 million
The former governor of kaduna state, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, who was remanded in prison on May 31, by the Federal High Court, has settled the fines of thirty-one inmates serving various jail terms for different offenses at the Kaduna central prison.
Recall that Yero and four others were remanded in jail after they were arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a four-count bordering on laundering over N700 million in 2015.

According to a statement released to the press by his former finance commissioner, Sama’ila Aliyu Makarfi, the 31 inmates were convicted with option of fine while others with both option of fine and compensation and because they could not pay, hence their conviction.
The former governor reportedly admonished the inmates to be of good behaviour urging them to reflect on the good lessons they have learnt while in prison custody in order to become good citizens.
