Uber – the electronic taxi group, has been banned in Italy. A court in Rome while ruling on a complaint filed by taxi unions adjudged Uber of giving traditional taxis an unfair competition.

The court gave Uber ten days to end the promotion, advertisement or use of any of its phone applications on Italian territory, if the company fails to comply it could be fined up to 10, 000 euros or $10, 600 for each day it defies the court order.

The ruling is however subject to appeal and Uber has vowed to appeal immediately seeking the suspension of the judgement which the company described as shocking.

Uber seems to have been having a rough ride in Italy, recall that a Milan court had two years ago banned Uber's UberPop application because it was deemed as encouraging the provision of taxi services by unlicensed drivers under the Italian law, Uber appealed that judgement but lost as it was upheld in a subsequent court case in Turin.

Ever used Uber, how do you see this? Are they really giving traditional taxis unfair competition? What's your take?
