The former president in time past had come under fire for failing to honour late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election in Nigeria.
President Buhari took Nigerians by surprise when he declared that June 12 be observed as Democracy Day in Nigeria as against May 29.
The president’s action had gained nationwide commendation especially among the Yorubas while Obasanjo has come under fire for allegedly refusing to honour Abiola despite repeated calls for him to do so during his tenure which spanned from 1999 – 2007.
