We support you – US declares as President Buhari signs #NotTooYoungTodash bill, Nigerians speak too
The United States of America on Thursday, May 31, declared its support for Nigerian youths, its women and a free, fair, and inclusive political process in the country. This was in reaction to the signing of the #NotTooYoungToRun bill by President Muhammadu Buhari.
reports that Nigerians across professional and political divide also reacted to the assent granted the NotTooYoungToRun bill bill by President Buhari as he had promised while addressing the citizens on democracy day.
While some say it is one of the best things that will ever happen to the youths of the country, others simply commended the president for fulfilling his promise which he made on May 29.

The US embassy in Abuja released its congratulatory message in a tweet: “Congratulations to Nigerian youths as @NGRPresident @MBuhari signs #NotTooYoungToRun bill into law. The U.S. supports a free, fair, and inclusive political process in Nigeria that includes the voices of young people, women, and the disabled.”
The US Mission added: “The struggle to achieve democracy gives it a special value and places responsibility on all of us to support the democratic process.
“We congratulate Nigeria on its progress since 1999, including the first peaceful transition of power from a ruling party to an opposition party in 2015.
“As we celebrate your progress, we encourage and support Nigeria and its people to consolidate and deepen democracy as the country heads towards important elections next year.”
Jayathma Wickramanayake, the 27-year-old United Nations secretary-general’s envoy on youth, said: Words cannot say how excited all of us are for the young people of Nigeria!!! :flag-ng:
“The leadership, strategy & commitment of @YIAGA has been a treat to watch & I am sure all young people globally are as inspired as I am!
“The real struggle starts now as we are #NotTooYoungToRun.”
Dakuku Peterside, a governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state in 2015, reacted thus: “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed young people can be proactive in demanding from their government the needed change. I commend @DSamsonItodo & the @YIAGA team. They are champions of our democracy.
“Thanks to Presodent @MBuhari for signing into law the #NotTooYoungToRun bill”
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, commended the president.
“History is made! #NotTooYoungToRun bill signed into law by @MBuhari. It will require hard work to take advantage of the new space. May it usher in patriotic youths that will join the task of nation building – So proud of these young Nigerians that pushed from start to finish,” he said.
Jude Idimogu, the lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo constituency 2, said with the signing of the bill, the president had demonstrated that he meant well for youth.
